Prerequisites: Algebra 1. SJP students need a recommendation from their current math teacher.
Tuition: $1200
Course Description:
This course offers a full year of geometry for the student who wishes to complete geometry in the summer in order to advance to Algebra 2/Trigonometry the following fall. This course is an intensive 60 hours of instruction at the honors level and demands the full dedication and commitment of the student.
Topics will include:
- Measurement
- Inductive and deductive reasoning
- Lines, triangles, congruence, similarity, polygons, transformations, formulas for perimeter and area
- Spatial reasoning
- Trigonometry
Substantial work must be completed outside of class time in order to master the necessary topics. To take this course, students are required to have completed a full year of Algebra 1 with a high final average, and must have the recommendation of their Algebra 1 teacher. There will be weekly tests and a cumulative exam will be administered at the end of the class.
Students will receive a grade, however, no credits will be assigned. For students who do not attend St. John’s, a letter will be mailed to their school showing the attendance record and final exam grade. Students are required to have a graphing calculator.
Class meets on the following dates:
Week 1: Monday June 12 – Friday June 16, 2023 (8am-12:30pm)
Week 2: Tuesday June 20-Friday June 23, 2023 (8am-12:30pm)
Week 3: Monday June 26-Friday June 30, 2023 (8am-noon)
All E/E programs are subject to change and every effort will be made to provide advance notice of such changes. All E/E programs are contingent upon meeting minimum enrollment numbers, and programs that do not do so may be canceled at short notice.
